If you're learning only covered working with adults and you think you might like to work with Children and Young People then it would be safer to add additional knowledge to prepare you to work with this client group safely.

Liberty's training is available to help you explore working with Children in varying settings including schools and private practice.
The introduction workshop is a great place to start as it gives you ideas on what sort of things might come up with this client group along with understanding what you might need to feel prepared.
After that there is a workshop that discusses paperwork and other things that might need to be amended from your work with adults; followed by Safeguarding Training and then maybe a National Counselling Society Advanced Specialist course to really round out your learning to help you feel equipped to work with Children and Young People whatever the setting.

This course will provide you with tools and information that will equip you to be feel more prepared to work with Children and Young People.
You will investigate the main modalities and their approach to working with children and young people. Consider ethics in relation to this client group along with developing further reflective practice; an essential aspect of working with children. The course also includes aspects of working creatively to help create therapeutic alliance with those that struggle to articulate feelings or communicate in general
To participate you need to hold a minimum of a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling (or equivalent); you will have completed a minimum of 100 hours supervised client work and be a member of an organisation that holds an accredited register for counselling. It is important to have been working with CYP before and preferably during this course.
It is highly recommended that you complete the CYP Workshop before you begin this course but it is not essential
We are delighted to be able to offer this course both face to face (Advanced Specialist) and Synchronously on-line (Quality Checked) but each course requires a minimum of 4 participants to run

Safeguarding is a vital part of training if you work with children, young people or vulnerable adults and even though we understand limits to confidentiality do you understand your obligations under the law? do you know what happens when you have to breach confidentiality? Are you reporting everything you should be? What can you do once you have reported it?
All of these are tricky questions that more robust knowledge will provide the answers for. If you work with or want to work with children either in private practice or in schools this is a must have CPD
