The course is run over 2 years, giving you 360 hours of face to face training and will provide you with the tools and knowledge that will help you feel prepared to work ethically as a counsellor. The core model of the course is Person-centred as this is a model that is built on the relationship between counsellor and client and helps you to understand who you are as a counsellor. You will also be taught some Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic Theory to help you discover the counsellor you would like to be post qualification as well as looking at Relationship Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Counselling on-line.
The modules studied will be – Working Professionally and safely as a counsellor; working within a coherent framework of counselling theory and skills; working within a counselling relationship; working with client diversity in counselling work; working with self-awareness in the counselling process; working self-reflectively as a counsellor; and the placement module Working within a user-centred approach to counselling which includes your placement of 100 supervised counselling hours.
The small class size means that the learning environment promotes deep work that really allows you to understand yourself and what counselling means for you, thus giving you a depth to the work you will undertake post qualification.
Your tutors are all practicing therapists which means they are able to provide relevant knowledge and experience to back up the theoretical understanding you will learn and each have particular strengths that they are able to share with you.

designed to give you basic information about counselling. Course participants will investigate what counselling is; learn about theory; practice some skills and consider what comes next for them.
This course is designed to be interactive with a variety of theory, personal investigation and application in real life through learning from others and discussion.
Course tutors are practising therapists and classes are small to give you depth and breadth of learning you will not get anywhere else
Week 1: Welcome and course content: Basic Counselling Skills
Week 2: Introduction to Psychodynamic Counselling
Week 3: Introduction to Cognitive Behavioural Counselling
Week 4: Introduction to Person-centred theory
Week 5: Course review and next steps
Course cost: £150 including certificate and priority entry to the Certificate in Counselling Skills

This course provides the foundations you need to move on to undertake a counselling qualifications such as our Counselling practitioner course, with a level of study equivalent to the Level 2 and 3 combined. This course is intense as it combines 2 years of learning into one but still provides you with the basic knowledge, skills and awareness that you need to be prepared for the next step.
The course will be delivered on a Wednesday evening or Friday morning with small classes giving you a depth of knowledge you are unlikely to get anywhere else. The face to face learning and skills practice is vital for development as a counsellor because the experience adds richness to the work you will undertake if you continue on our Counselling Practitioner Course.
